Ballenberg – the Swiss Open Air Museum

The Open-Air Museum Ballenberg is certainly the most comprehensive museum in the area. There are more than 100 original centuries-old buildings from all parts of Switzerland. 250 local farm animals, original gardens and fields, as well as demonstrations of traditional crafts and special events turn the past into an experience. Traditions are written in capital letters and appeals to all the senses. Children can make friends with all the different animals. There is a petting enclosure and an exciting playground.

Allow yourself enough time and there is a lot to see and discover with the grounds extending to over 66 acres. The museum is also a good option in bad weather, as many activities take place inside the houses. The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum is located near Brienz. From Gimmelwald, the Ballenberg West entrance can be reached by public transport in just under 2 hours. There is also a paid parking lot.
