How to get to Gimmelwald

Gimmelwald is located at the far end of the Lauterbrunnen valley on a sunny mountain terrace. Gimmelwald is car-free, accessible only by cable car (or by hiking there). You can reach Stechelberg cable car station by the public transport system or with your car. The cable car runs every day from 6am to 11.45pm and takes only 5 minutes to Gimmelwald.

If you travel by car, it takes you half an hour to reach Stechelberg cable car station from Interlaken. You park your car in the big parking lot and then take the cable car up to Gimmelwald. More information about the time table and the costs of the ticket and parking you find on https://schilthorn.ch/de/Infos/Fahrplan__und__Tarife

Should you be travelling by train, you catch the Lauterbrunnen-bound train from the Interlaken Ost and get off at Lauterbrunnen. Make sure you board the correct part of the train! While the front train carriages go to Lauterbrunnen, the second half of the train carriages go to Grindelwald. At Lauterbrunnen, cross the street through the underground connection and board the yellow Post Bus (Postauto) heading for the Stechelberg cable car station. There you get off and ride the Schilthorn cable car up one station to Gimmelwald. http://www.sbb.ch

A second option to Gimmelwald is to get from Lauterbrunnen via Gruetschalp and Muerren. But as this takes much longer and is more complicated, it’s not recommended for travellers with luggage.
