Car-free

Gimmelwald is one of the so-called "car-free" villages in Switzerland - as are Mürren and Wengen. This means that these traffic-calmed villages have no connection to the public road network and the private cars of the population are parked on the valley floor. For daily supply and disposal, the municipality has issued special permits to transport and construction companies as well as all craft businesses, and has drawn up traffic regulations. Agricultural businesses are allowed to drive as needed. If you are annoyed as a guest about the car traffic in Gimmelwald and Mürren, please remember that even in villages with little traffic, food, heating oil and other important things have to be brought to their destination. We thank you for your understanding.
